The Run and Shoot Offense
Coverage Recognition
The Run and Shoot Passing Game is designed to run against 5 basic defensive coverages. The 3
Deep Zone, 2 Deep Zone, 2 Deep with Man Under, Man-Free, and 4 Across Man Blitz are the
schemes that have to be attacked. When the receivers run up the field, they are going to be looking
for one of these five coverages. It could be one of the multitude of coverages some teams use, but
to the receiver it will be one of these five.

Zone Coverage- When running routes into zone coverage, the receiver wants to find a "window"
between defenders. This means he should try to position himself in an open area.

Man Coverage- The basic rule for man coverage is to defeat your man and take care of the top of
the coverage. Keep moving, never settle down in an area vs. man coverage.
